Preparing farmers, their workforce and advisors to the future of agriculture by providing the relevant knowledge and skills at the right time and place

This call aims to equip farmers, their workforce, and advisors with the necessary knowledge and skills to address the challenges and seize the opportunities in sustainable agriculture. Proposals should focus on enhancing lifelong learning (LLL) activities to prepare the agricultural community for future sustainability transitions. The scope includes the development of methods to assess current and future knowledge and skill needs, evaluating existing agricultural education and training systems, and exploring best practices for linking knowledge collected within Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS). The call also emphasizes the creation of generative AI tools to facilitate easy access to relevant knowledge and decision-making support for farmers. Furthermore, the establishment of a certification system for LLL engagement in sustainability issues is a key deliverable. A multi-actor approach is required, with a consortium that includes diverse actors such as farmers, advisors, agricultural educators, and researchers.

Scope

• Develop and apply methods to assess knowledge and skill needs of farmers, workforce, and advisors for sustainability transitions.
• Investigate how knowledge and skills are acquired and by whom (e.g., incentives, tools, timing).
• Map and evaluate the effectiveness of current education and training systems.
• Provide recommendations for improving agricultural education to support sustainable agriculture transitions.
• Explore best practices for integrating knowledge from AKIS to support lifelong learning (LLL).
• Co-create new methods/tools to enhance knowledge transfer between researchers, advisors, and farmers.
• Develop generative AI tools for improved decision-making towards sustainability.
• Set up pilot actions for integrated education and training systems.
• Create a certification system to reward LLL engagement on sustainability topics.
• Explore synergies between Horizon Europe, EIP-AGRI, and Erasmus+ projects.
