This call, part of Horizon Europe Cluster 2 under the “Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society” program for 2025, aims to address the increasing prevalence of gender-based violence intersecting with politically motivated violence. This violence disproportionately impacts politically active women and LGBTIQ individuals, undermining democratic values and inclusion. The focus extends beyond formal politics to activism, community engagement, and civic participation. The initiative targets understanding the drivers of such violence, including its intersectionality with other forms of discrimination like racism, homophobia, and transphobia. It seeks to analyze the effects of digital advancements like deepfakes, which amplify gendered and sexualized disinformation, and how these dynamics translate into physical and psychological harm.
Projects are expected to promote responsible media portrayal, counter sensationalism, and foster a culture encouraging the public participation of women and LGBTIQ people. Research must adopt multidisciplinary approaches, engage stakeholders and civil society, and integrate qualitative and quantitative methods across multiple countries. Successful proposals will bridge knowledge gaps by studying cultural, media, and historical influences on public perception of such violence. Collaboration with complementary Horizon Europe projects is encouraged to enhance synergies and policy outcomes.
