3rd Generation of CMS may be implemented as retrofits on frozen WTs (electrical train)

Result description

The solutions for the monitoring of the diagnosis developments on the electrical drive train cover:

– 1 Generator failure modes.

– 2 Converter failure modes.

– 3 Transformer failure modes.

In this context, the solution proposed by SGRE AS consists of diagnostic solutions for Electrical Drive Trains which mean cost reduction by taking decisions faster, more secure, more precise and with greater time anticipation. This project line has allowed explore how to develop new monitoring techniques for existing designs to be applied as design improvement and thus, improving the diagnostic capabilities to improve the added value services for our customers.

Current stage description

This result achieved a TRL-7 in the project. Each of the diagnosis & prognosis solutions has been tentatively implemented in a Wind farm. Next steps: cost reductions in general are a big challenge to overcome in order to provide better diagnosis into new turbines. In the case of running designs, there is also a barrier to implement and retrofit with new technologies unless it is needed.

Replicability

Methodology SW and results obtained can be applied also to other turbine designs providing outcomes. 

Sustainability

Project outcomes are not considered as an standalone business as itself but a contribution to SGRE business lines.
