Result description
The project result is an adsorption heat pump based on zeolite-water working pair. Water is a natural refrigerant – clean, non-toxic, non-flammable, safe for the people and for the environment. Zeolites are environmentally friendly, harmless materials with ideal properties for adsorption. The adsorbent is optimally applied to the heat exchanger in a process called PST – Partial Support Transformation. This process, makes zeolite crystals grow directly out of the surface of the heat exchangers. This alleviates the need for any kind of coating or glue and optimizes heat conductivity. Because zeolite can reach even the smallest cavities of porous or fibrous material, the surface-to-volume ratio and therefore power density can be maximized. Therefore weight, size, and cost can be improved simultaneously.
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs
- Business partners – SMEs, Entrepreneurs, Large Corporations
- Expanding to more markets /finding new customers
For further commercialization of our product we are looking for cooperation with solar thermal companies, ESCOs, HVAC installers, and companies working in the field of energy efficiency consulting. We are also interested in sales partnerships especially in regions with high ambient temperature (e.g. South Europe, Middle East).
Fahrenheit is also open for further investors, who could help us in scaling-up our business gaining profits from our environmental-fiendly cooling technology.
- Public or private funding institutions
- Other Actors who can help us fulfil our market potential
- Private Investors
R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
To fully exploit the potential of this new technology and successfully place the new product on the market, the prototype required further testing under dynamic operating conditions. Such testing is currently being performed in a senior residence in Central Spain, where an existing field of solar collectors provides high amount of surplus heat in summer. Gathered monitoring data will be used for evaluation of the prototype performance and reliability (stability). We aim at learning about the strengths and shortcomings of the prototype and defining the areas that need improvement before launching this product on the market. Furthermore, we plan to collect the information about the advantages of the prototype (e.g., generated energy savings) which will be used for marketing activities.
The HVAC is a very big market on which recently the sustainable, environmental-friendly technologies are more and more demanded. This trend is reflected by incentives and legislative actions implemented on the European and National levels. Therefore an increasing interest in adsorption technology is expected.
Our adsorption heat pumps can serve applications with a broad range of cooling power needed – from few kW up to several houndreds kW.
The developed adsorption heat pump can be used in many other applications than solar cooling. In principle, all applications where renewable, excess or waste heat is available and the cooling is needed, the adsorption cooling technology can be successfully deployed. Moreover, the heat pumps can be used for both cooling (as a chiller) and heating (as a heat pump) and therefore can be used in many different residential, commercial and industrial applications.
The result represents green technology, which contributes to the decarbonisation of the HVAC sector and promotes the use of natural, safe refrigerants.
For many years, the adsorption technology based on silica gel brought savings for our clients and ensured benefits for the stakeholders. The broad introduction of the zeolite based adsorption heat pumps will further enhance the environmental and economic benefits of the adsorption cooling.
