Result description
A portable, low-cost, and fully automated platform for rapid, multiplexed allergy diagnostics using minimal serum volume. It delivers real-time, quantitative results on-site, reducing patient burden, enabling decentralized testing, and offering a scalable solution adaptable to other immunoassay-based applications.
The Allergens Screening Tool is currently a prototype used exclusively at CSEM, primarily by R&D engineers and scientists involved in the HEDIMED project. Three portable reader prototypes are available at CSEM for those interested in testing or collaboration, and precise allergen dispensing on slides or alternative fluidic structures can be performed upon request.
The tool is intended for clinical researchers, diagnostic laboratories, medical device R&D teams, and potentially clinicians or point-of-care personnel. It is used when rapid, low-volume analysis of immunological markers (such as allergen-specific IgE) is needed outside of large, centralized facilities. Typical use cases include clinical studies, allergy screening in a doctor’s office, or research settings that benefit from immediate, on-site measurement.
A small volume of biological sample (e.g., serum) is pipetted into a microfluidic slide containing immobilized allergens. After automated incubation and labeling steps, the slide is inserted into the portable reader, which detects and quantifies fluorescence signals indicating the presence of specific antibodies or other biomarkers.
