Automated wireless monitoring system for composites manufacturing (Lay-up, preforming and infusion)

Result description

The system could potentially monitor lay-up, preforming and infusion process defects, by controlling the stress of the fabrics, which affect to its geometry after manufactured. This system could be an integrated system on the ADMP machine control able to detect NCFs & its lamination defects.

We specifically need / are looking for

Further research in the integraton of the system in the ADMP or similar technologies, in order to monitor manufacturing processes of Carbon fabrics. The wireless monitoring system will allow producing digital signals and vast sets of data linked with the lamination process to create an as-built digital twin.

Current stage description

The TRL at the end of the project remaining under TRL 4 makes that there is much development work to be carried out. For the first 3-6 months after end of the project continuation development plan shall be prepared, with special attention for the budgetary issues. Contact with potential end-user shall be made to contrast the situation and interest of the system for a production environment.

In-process and in real time wireless monitoring of NCF lay-up manufacturing. Technology that can detect manufacuring defects on all layers of the multiaxial fabrics. Defects that can´t be detected in-process with any other existing technology. Moreover, this system can be connected to adaptative control systems, so automated process parameters readjustment could be feasible.
