The formation and disassembly of biofilms has applications in several areas, such as medicine, food industry and biotechnology, among others, with the aim of evaluating the capacity of different compounds or materials to inhibit the formation of biofilms or to destructure them once they have been formed. For the study of these processes, appropriate bacterial strains will be selected, taking into account the specific objective of each investigation. In the case of samples intended to evaluate antimicrobial activity, strains of clinical interest, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Acinetobacter baumannii, shall be used, while for studies directed at soil or water bioremediation, bacteria representative of natural environments, such as Pseudomonas putida, shall be chosen.

Specifications and Deliverables:
A report describing the results obtained in the different experiments carried out to evaluate the toxicity of the materials of interest will be provided to the costumers. Together with the results and conclusions, the protocols applied to perform the experiments will be also specified.
Value Proposition:
The evaluation of the antimicrobial capacity of various compounds and materials for their potential application in different areas is essential. Studies on biofilms are particularly relevant nowadays, as their formation represents a considerable risk in sectors such as medicine and food industry, which underlines the need of effective antimicrobial compounds to inhibit or reduce their formation. On the other hand, it is crucial to analyse the effect of different compounds on biofilm formation and disassembling when they are used in biotechnological processes, as in these cases the aim is to preserve the integrity of biofilms, so that they can contribute positively to these processes. In both contexts, the evaluation is performed by in vitro assays, which offers several advantages, such as the use of simple biological models that avoid ethical considerations, high reproducibility, shorter analysis times and reduced costs, among others.
