Result description

New voluntary certification scheme designed to mitigate the unintentional release of microplastics along the production, distribution and purchasing of food products. The new standard could be adopted in different phases of the whole food chain involving different organizations: logistic organizations, food industries, retailers, HORECA operators. The new certification scheme intents to be an additional standard not competitive with existing food Q&S marks (BRC, IFS, Global Gap)

Current stage: A reference practice has been released by UNI (Italian Nationa Standards Body).

Next steps:

  1. 1) Set the guidelines for the Voluntary certification scheme.

2) Define the agreements with the 3rd part certification body/ies

  1. 3) Promote the certification scheme for the food industries
Scalability

Initial costs:

Cost estimation to implement planned activities (1 year, 3 years).

1st year : around 5k € of estimated personal costs

3rd year: around 30k € for the commercialisation and promotion of the certification scheme

Projected revenues and eventual profits once the scheme will be used (1 and 3 years after use)

Revenue after 1st year: 0k €

Revenue after 3rd year: 50k €/year coming from certification scheme adoption and from the Mark usage rights
