Result description
The Cloud-Controlled Mobile Robotic Arm Solution is an robotics solution designed for rapid integration into existing manufacturing sites. It can handle intralogistic tasks, mobile manipulation and machine tending and is customizable for the user.
The Zero-SWARM “Cloud-Controlled Mobile Robotic Arm” solution is a robotic arm on an autonomous mobile robot (AMR) controlled from an edge cloud using ROS 2 and optionally an IEC 61499 PLC. A conventional mobile robotic arm has been enhanced with a cloud-based control concept, which allows outsourcing of computationally intensive applications such as path planning or image processing to the cloud, saving resources on the robot, reducing energy consumption there, and simplifying administration.
The robot is designed to be quickly set up in new production environments, exploiting the cloud controlled approach, only requiring a wireless network (Wi-Fi or 5G) at the production site. Optionally, the robot may be integrated into existing IEC 61499 systems for production, logistics and manufacturing processes.
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs
- Business partners – SMEs, Entrepreneurs, Large Corporations
- Expanding to more markets /finding new customers
We are looking for pilot customers and/or business partners who are willing to incorporate our solution into their production environment.
- Public or private funding institutions
- Other Actors who can help us fulfil our market potential
R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
The system was validated and demonstrated in production environments at the Fraunhofer IPK. The next step is to use the system directly with industrial partners to validate long-term operation in real production environments.
The system is based on commercially available hardware, the software is based on the open ROS 2 framework and can be replicated.
