Result description

The E2VENT LHTES is a semi active cooling device Integrated into the 20cm insulation of an ETICS renovation for residential building. The LHTES is a heat exchanger composed of phase change materials (PCM) that have the property to store and to release a lot of energy when the materials change from solid to liquid. This property of the PCM, combined with external and internal temperatures, allows to discharge the heat from the building in summer, and to preheat it in winter.

It is a 150kg, 2,5*0,6*0,16 (height, width, thick) aluminum based system that integrates 55kg of PCM. It has a 2,5kWh energy sotrage for a maximum 400W cooling power. Powered by a 30W fan, it has a COP of 10.

Current stage description

The system was tested in laboratory and then installed in buildings in Burgos, Spain. Although demonstrating its correct functionning and its efficiency, barriers remain such as the maintenance capacity, the industrialization and the costs of the system.
