The awareness-raising is also important since IT Service Management Systems can only be implemented if there is a sufficient governance-level commitment. In the case of transnational non-profit ecosystems similar to EOSC, the governance is closely linked to national funding policies.

Result is used to provide services through EOSC portal and marketplace

While some processes related to the result require manual assessment, the per-transaction cost of adding a service to the service portfolio will become lower as the number of integrated resources grow and the potential for reuse of the integrated resources increases.

The result is supported with extensive documentation, including an open standard that is well-aligned with the industry-standard IT Service Management approaches.

Developing a similar system is feasible based on material made available by the consortium, training and consulting would likely reduce the effort needed (but are not strictly speaking necessary).

In the current “free at the point of use” model of EOSC service delivery, SMS makes it possible to reach economies of scale by reducing friction in the provider-to-provider and provider-to-user interactions. Thus, it saves considerable financial and human resources compared to ad hoc provision of IaaS/PaaS/SaaS resources.

In settings where service provision is more closely tied to financial transactions, a membership or transaction-fee based business models would possibly make it easier to achieve sustainability.
