Result description
Researchers at INESC TEC have developed a multi-sensor unit, a new device with several sensors ( temperature, humidity, luminosity and CO2) with the abilities to communicate data in real time, store data in case of internet connection failures and to work in wireless mode (powered battery) for long periods.
Different from existing solutions on the market, which mainly use proprietary databases and are expensive, the multi-sensor unit was developed with components already on the market, making it flexible and affordable.
In the FEEdBACk project it was necessary to develop a device with several sensors (namely, temperature, humidity, brightness and CO2) capable of communicating data in real time, to store data in case of internet connection failures and to work in wireless mode (powered per battery) for long periods.
As all solutions on the market used proprietary databases and were expensive, it was decided to develop a PCB from scratch (with components already on the market) and all the necessary software (both at the PCB and backend servers level).

- Technology Transfer Expertise
- I/we wish to transfer my/our IPR to an interested party
The multi-sensor unit is in the “experimental prototype” stage and we would like to pass to an “industrial prototype”, so we can have it ready for commercialization. We also need to improve the casing, to have a more functional and appellative design.

R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
The equipment has been tested in a controlled laboratory environment and under real operating conditions. It was shown to be an easy-to-use printed circuit board that allows access to stored data in an agile way and at a much lower cost when compared to the solutions currently available on the market.
Due to its flexibility, it can be used in different ways by different agents interested in monitoring, for example:
• Companies that already sell products for monitoring and managing energy consumption in the domestic environment
• Local authorities to monitor public buildings.
• Industries that could use it to monitor indoor air quality, feel it can have a significant impact on productivity
The implementation of the multi-sensor unit can be easily replicated. The installation is quite straightforward and the equipment can be installed in any type of building. It just needs an internet connection.
