Ancillary services account for a wide range of controller operations over a spectrum of time-scales, from inertial control to low-frequency power smoothing. To test these controllers, it is necessary to have testing procedures which take into account the full diversity of possibilities.

Certification of new equipment must be performed at the highest standards within facilities fulfilling necessary conditions for the certification. The testing procedures must take into account full range of complexities that controllers bring, from hierarchical operation to robustness on different conditions.

Current stage description

The testing procedures have been devised and explored in a research laboratory environment for a certain set of ancillary service controllers. The next step would be to include other controllers and transition procedures to the certification labs.
