Result description
The potential of local energy markets relies on having active prosumers who consume their self-generated electricity while sharing/trading their surplus with the local market and take part in services related to demand response. Unlocking the flexibility behind such residential customers (composed of a large number of heterogeneous small resources with many interdependencies) and supporting them to participate in demand response programs which fulfil privacy requirements would require active information exchange between market participants in form of decentralised optimisation protocols. This is the gap that this exploitable result aims at filling in.
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs
- Grants and Subsidies
- Business partners – SMEs, Entrepreneurs, Large Corporations
After the project ends CEA will try to seek a client for its technology using the project results as a validation for it. The direct channels to use will be the ongoing relationships with technology providers and end- users. A collaboration with an existing start-up for the creation of a spinoff will be taken into account.
- Public or private funding institutions
- Other Actors who can help us fulfil our market potential
R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
CEA-LIST started the DRIVE project with a MAS platform for the optimal management of the energy systems at a TRL 4. During the project, the platform was integrated within the ENERVALIS platform, and hence into a product that is already commercial (with all the improvements on the efficiency of the code and interfacing modules that this involved) and validated on the basis of the Woerden demo site, a community that was already performing community management. For the Woerden pilot the platform was developed, parametrised and validated with new agent models for some existing resources that were not currently available within the platform such as home heating, the domestic hot water and the heat pumps. The MAS platform was also tested in real-time as a result of its integration with the ENERVALIS cloud which in turn was connected to the TH real-time emulator. As a result of such developments, integration and validation the platform achieved a TRL 5-6 at the end of the project.
The platform developed can be used to model any other neighbourhood, community different from the ones tested in the project with no extra cost.
Sustainability is at the core of CEA activities, who aim to bridge the gap between research and industry in particular on domains such as energy, circular economy, …
