The solutions developed by Ikerlan is a sector agnostic approach. The hybrid testing methodology will be quite generic so that it is scalable beyond the consortium. It is valid for pitch bearings, but also for other wind turbine components, and can be extended to large components in other sectors with similar scale and testing requirements such as maritime applications, aerospace, or energy power plants in general.

The methodologies and tools will be implemented both along the design phase and testing phase of new components and when damaged components require a specific crack repairing operation. 

10 months: prove the idea (TRL4)

+6 months: definition of the tools to use the solution in field and steps for real application. (TRL6). 

+12 months: test the idea in a real wind turbine

The solution is implemented along the designing and testing process of the components and reduces significantly the resources required and increases the component reliability. It has a direct impact in the component maintenance strategy. Lifetime extension has a relevant impact in the investment of new components and reduces the environmental footprint.
