Result description
One phase of the PED design methodology focuses on selecting PED technologies, a process where many cities struggle due to limited information on innovative technologies and how they can achieve a positive energy balance at the district level, integrating various energy carriers and systems. The PED Technologies Selection Tool was developed to assist in this process, providing cities with tailored information and recommendations aligned with their district’s context and objectives.
The tool starts by identifying the district’s goals and boundaries (geographical, virtual, or functional). Then, users answer questions on resource availability, urban layout, land use, energy infrastructure, and social structure. At each step, helpful hints guide cities through the process. Finally, the tool generates a diagram showing the interconnections between technologies, grids, and buildings, along with recommendations linked to a technology catalogue of potential solutions. The tool will soon be integrated into an online platform in collaboration with the ATELIER project.
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs
