The Remonda project achieves two primary objectives: revaluing orange peel waste and substituting conventional plastics with sustainable alternatives.
Firstly, it reduces waste by integrating orange peel back into production, addressing waste accumulation. Secondly, Remonda replaces conventional plastics with biodegradable options, reducing plastic waste and pollution.
By developing a local supply chain for these alternatives, the project aims to decrease reliance on imports, fostering a more sustainable economy. These efforts promote circular economy principles, crucial in cities like Seville, which discard 6 tons of orange peel annually.
This initiative not only mitigates waste but also drives a shift towards locally sourced, bio-based, and biodegradable materials—a vital move towards sustainability.
The Remonda team comprises Mónica Villoslada Valbuena (Environmental Biotechnologist), Celia María Camacho Montaño (Climate Change Geologist), and Marina Pérez Fernández (International Trade and Marketing Professional).
