Result description
The Smart Restraint System is helping passengers of vehicles (including smart driving) in the appropriate and safe interaction with airbags and seatbelt, employing: (i) intelligent pressure control to ease efficiency and adaptability to the size, age and disability of the passenger or the type of accident; and (ii) allowing flexibility for deployment locations and fixing points, for a more comfortable and relaxed driving experience
The Smart Restraint System includes pressure control and smart belt system with load limiting control. The system also includes an adaptable footrest for cabin interior safety and adaptable to human anthropometry.

R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
Since the partners, THI and DLR, involved in the development of the Adaptive Airbag, are research institutions, the priorities are more towards knowledge exploitation, technology transfer, networking with industry, and preparation of follow-up funding proposals, rather than direct product commercialization or mass production.
