Result description
4RinEU guidelines will define effective strategies for managing the component end-of-life (with a special focus on 4RinEU technologies and demos). It includes (a) a tool for quickly identifying waste material from existing buildings, (b) material recovery technologies, (c) strategies for optimizing the end-of-life of 4RinEU renovations, and (d) strategies for optimizing the end-of-life of components in the building-to-be-renovated – and thus minimizing 4RinEU embodied energy.
The objective of the guidelines is to define good practices to provide an overview to the manufacturers about the potential sustainability of deconstruction processes. With this aim, the guidelines describe specific disassembly approaches to manage the end-of-life of the building components, increasing the recycling rate of the construction materials for the proposed technologies.
In particular, the guidelines propose:
· an approach for quick identification and quantification of waste materials from the existing building components to be deconstructed, demolished or renovated;
· a strategy for re-use and recycling of components and materials, including evaluation of costs and benefits;
· an overview of best available technologies for recovery construction materials.
