The AMBER Barrier Tracker App is available in 11 languages and has been used by Citizen Scientists to track barriers in 34 different countries, with the app’s popularity even translating to use outside the EU.
This data on European rivers forms a sepatate Citizen Science data layer in the AMBER Barrier Atlas and provides local knowledge that illustrates citizen engagement and interest. The app is also an educational tool that facilitates recognition of the impact of fragmentation of river catchments.
The App has 1,600 registered users who have collected information on 7,222 barriers and has allowed AMBER to collate much more information that would have been possible through more traditional methods such as field surveying.
