Result description
A controlled laboratory environment for earlier design validations of wave energy electrical power take offs, ensuring realistic open-sea operating conditions.
A Hardware-In-the-Loop emulator to reporduce the primary mechanical power capture in wave energy devices. The motor side is composed by the motor, the frequency converter to control the motor and the motor control software. The aim of these components is to simulate the performance of the wave energy device under real operating conditions. The generator side includes the generator, the frequency converter to control the generator and the PLC with the generator control software. This part represents the equipment under test. Applications:
- – Performance and reliability assessment of electrical PTO components.
- – Detection of anomalies and estimation of remaining useful life.
Addressing target audiences and expressing needs
- Grants and Subsidies
Generator‘s lifetime prediction and upscaling of project results to increase confidence in test bench recommendations.
- Public or private funding institutions
R&D, Technology and Innovation aspects
Services to users are ready. However, further improvements could be developed to increase confidence in test bench recommendations
This test rig has been customised to Tecnalia/IDOM needs but could be replicated for other wave technologies at a larger scale.
The main service will be for TECNALIA to provide testing services to WEC developers at early stages of their development since it has a reduced power. Testing services will be provided at a cost to offset yearly minor repairs and consumables:
- – Baseline cost depending on duration – hour or day rate
- – Optional pre- or post-processing services – cost to be agreed
- Europe
- Asia
- South America
- North America
- Oceania
