he University of Prishtina is the largest and most prominent public university in Kosovo. Established on 15 February 1970, it marked a significant milestone for the Albanian-speaking population, providing higher education in their native language for the first time in the region. The university’s origins trace back to the Higher Pedagogical School of Pristina, founded in 1958, which laid the groundwork for modern higher education in Kosovo.

Today, the University of Prishtina comprises  14 academic  offering a wide range of bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs. With an enrollment of approximately 9,000 students and a faculty of over 1,200 academic staff, it stands as a central institution for education and research in Kosovo.

The university’s campus is situated in the heart of Prishtina, featuring notable landmarks such as the National Library of Kosovo. The university also hosts the Prishtina International Summer University, fostering international collaboration and academic exchange
