This BMFTR funding call focuses on Clinical studies for post-infectious diseases (PAIS).
The call funds investigator‑initiated clinical studies and systematic reviews on post‑infectious conditions (PAIS). Module 1 covers confirmatory and exploratory randomised controlled trials with at least two trial sites; Phase I/IIa, healthy‑person studies, prevention studies, safety‑only studies and effectiveness trials are excluded. Module 2 supports high‑quality systematic reviews of PAIS clinical studies that have clear relevance for patient care.
Eligible applicants primarily include universities and higher education institutions, non-university research and technology organisations and civil-society and non-profit organisations. Projects can only be funded if they have a high relevance for the care of patients with PAIS in Germany; - if patients affected by PAIS, their representations or other relevant target groups are appropriately involved in the planning, implementation and dissemination of results. Projects without participation of persons concerned, their representations or other relevant target groups can only be funded in justified exceptional cases where participation is not shown to be possible. The call mainly supports individual projects, although cooperation may still be possible where justified. Grants are granted as non-refundable grants by means of project funding. The basis for funding at universities, research and science institutions and comparable institutions that do not fall within the scope of economic activities is the eligible project-related expenditure (for Helmholtz Centres and the Fraunhofer Society, the eligible project-related costs), which can be individually funded up to 100 percent, taking into account the legal requirements. In the case of non-economic research projects at universities and university clinics, in addition to the eligible expenditure financed by the BMFTR, a project fee of 20 percent is granted.
The funding aims to close evidence gaps in diagnosis and therapy for post‑infectious conditions, thereby improving the quality of patient care and accelerating the translation of research findings into routine practice.
The procedure is two-stage. The current submission deadline is 2026-09-02. The call uses one fixed submission deadline. 7.1 Inclusion of a promoter, application documents, other documents and use of the electronic application system The BMFTR currently commissioned the following project promoters: DLR project promoters – Health sector – Heinrich-Konen-Straße 1 53227 Bonn Telephone: 0228/3821-1210 Fax: 0228/3821-1257 Opponents are: Dr. Andrea Delekate Mr. Dr.
