DeepNL Top-up Call: Opportunities for Integration and Impact

Description

The DeepNL Top-up Call: Opportunities for Integration and Impact aims to increase the scientific and societal impact of the DeepNL research programme by building on insights from previously funded projects.

It specifically targets researchers involved in earlier DeepNL projects, enabling them to develop small follow-up projects that integrate, apply, and disseminate existing knowledge.

Funding Amount

  • Total funding available: €500,000
  • Funding per project: up to €50,000
  • Project duration: up to 12 months

Submission Deadlines

Multiple submission rounds:

  • First round deadline: 10 February 2026
  • Second round deadline: 7 May 2026
  • Final deadline: 22 September 2026 (14:00 CEST)

Submission Conditions

  • Applications must be submitted via the NWO ISAAC system
  • Submitted by:
    • One main applicant
    • Optional co-applicants
  • Applicants must:
    • Have been involved in a previous or ongoing DeepNL project
    • Be employed at an eligible Dutch research organisation
  • Eligible costs include:
    • Personnel
    • Material costs
    • Knowledge utilisation activities

Eligible Types of Applicants

  • Individual researchers (with optional co-applicants), including:
    • Professors
    • Postdocs
    • PhD holders involved in DeepNL projects
  • Eligible host institutions:
    • Dutch universities
    • University medical centres
    • NWO and KNAW institutes
    • Selected national research institutes (e.g. ARCNL, Naturalis, etc.)

Eligible Countries

  • Netherlands (mandatory affiliation with Dutch research institutions)

Expected Outcome

  • Enhanced scientific and societal impact of DeepNL research
  • Better integration and synthesis of existing knowledge
  • Development of:
    • Applications and deliverables for stakeholders
    • Scalable insights and solutions
  • Increased knowledge utilisation and dissemination

Scope

Projects must:

  • Build on and integrate results from one or more previous DeepNL projects
  • Focus on additional activities not covered in the original projects
  • Contribute to:
    • Integration of knowledge and results
    • Upscaling (e.g. to reservoir or field scale)
    • Application and usability of results
    • Outreach and knowledge transfer to stakeholders and the public
