Interregional Research Projects Tyrol-South Tyrol-Trentino FWF

Description

The programme funds interregional collaborative basic research projects involving researchers from the European region Tyrol (Austria), South Tyrol, and Trentino (Italy). It is administered by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) on behalf of the Euregio partners. It aims to strengthen cross-border scientific cooperation, support joint research networks, and increase the international visibility and innovation capacity of the Euregio region.

Funding Amount

  • Total programme budget: ~€3.9 million
  • Per project funding:
    • Approx. €300,000 to €600,000 per project
  • Funding duration:
    • 24 to 36 months
  • Funding is distributed across regional components, with each region supporting its own participating institutions.

Submission Deadlines

  • Call opening: March 10, 2026
  • Submission deadline: May 26, 2026 (02:00 pm Vienna local time)

Submission Conditions

  • Applications must include a consortium of three partners, one from each region:
    • Tyrol (Austria)
    • South Tyrol (Italy)
    • Trentino (Italy)

Key requirements:

  • One partner acts as research coordinator
  • Each partner contributes a substantial share of the project
  • Work packages must be interdependent (not independently fundable)

Administrative requirements:

  • Submission via FWF elane portal (by the Tyrolean partner)
  • Compliance with FWF application guidelines
  • Budget constraints require balanced distribution between partners (no more than 10% imbalance between largest and smallest share)
