ProFIT Brandenburg – Programme for Research, Innovation and Technology

Program Description:
ProFIT Brandenburg supports companies and research institutions in implementing innovative projects within the state of Brandenburg. It provides financial assistance for various phases of the innovation process, including:

  • Industrial research

  • Experimental development

  • Feasibility studies

  • Market preparation

  • Market introduction

Both individual and collaborative projects can be funded.

Eligible Applicants:

  • Companies:

    • Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) based in Brandenburg, either as sole applicants or in collaboration with other companies or research institutions

    • Large enterprises based in Brandenburg, but only in cooperation with SMEs from Berlin/Brandenburg or with a research institution

  • Research Institutions:

    • Based in Brandenburg, and only in cooperation with at least one company from the Berlin/Brandenburg region

Eligible Costs:

For research and development as well as market-related projects:

  • Project-related personnel costs

  • Costs for external services directly related to the project

  • Material costs

  • Other individual project-related costs

  • Indirect project costs

  • Costs for market preparation and market introduction

For feasibility studies:

  • Costs for external service contracts (third-party services)

Type and Level of Funding:

Funding is provided in the form of non-repayable grants and/or low-interest loans. The funding structure depends on the phase of the innovation project:

  • Industrial research: Up to 80% of eligible costs can be funded

  • Experimental development: Up to 60% of eligible costs

  • Feasibility studies: Up to 70% of eligible costs

  • The maximum grant amount is €3 million per project

  • The experimental development and market phases are primarily supported through low-interest loans, also up to €3 million per project

Loan conditions—such as duration, interest rates, and repayment terms—are determined individually by the Investitionsbank des Landes Brandenburg (ILB). Loans may cover up to 100% of eligible costs, as long as the total public funding does not exceed 80% of the overall project budget.

Expected Outcome

The aim of the ProFIT program is to strengthen the innovative capacity and competitiveness of Brandenburg’s economy by supporting technology-oriented development projects with a clear potential for market application.

  • Market introduction

Legal Requirements

Eligible applicants are:

  • For grants: Legally independent, profit-oriented companies as well as research institutions with a registered office or place of business in Brandenburg

  • For loans: Legally independent, profit-oriented companies with a registered office or place of business in Brandenburg

Companies that do not meet the EU definition of a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) are only eligible for funding in cooperation with SMEs or research institutions.
Research institutions are only eligible for funding as part of a collaborative project that includes at least one company from Brandenburg or Berlin.

The funding is subject to the following conditions:

  • The proposed project must be carried out in Brandenburg.

  • The expected project results must provide a plausible basis for increasing company-related and/or regional value creation and employment.

  • Funding will only be provided if the project cannot be realized without support or could only be realized with significant delay.

  • Measures related to market preparation and market introduction are funded as de minimis aid.

  • Funding from federal, EU, or other Brandenburg-specific programs must be used with priority.

  • You must ensure full financing of the entire project.
