Dracula Technologies has unveiled its state-of-the-art “Green MicroPower Factory” in Valence, France, marking Europe’s largest facility dedicated to the production of organic photovoltaic (OPV) devices. Spanning 2500 m², the factory employs inkjet printing technology to manufacture up to 150 million cm² of OPV devices annually. Timed with the burgeoning Internet of Things (IoT) market and in line with European regulations phasing out non-rechargeable batteries in IoT devices, the factory aims to meet the growing demand for sustainable power sources.
Using the world’s first free-shaped OPV module, LAYER®, produced through inkjet printing, the factory achieves high-volume production of customized modules while reducing unit production costs by a factor of three. LAYER® technology, developed by Dracula Technologies over a decade, harnesses ambient light, even in low light conditions, eliminating the need for cables and batteries in smart home devices.
In support of this environmentally conscious venture, Dracula Technologies plans to hire over 60 skilled professionals, fostering economic growth and creating job opportunities. The company aims to have 250 employees by 2030, contributing to France and Europe’s sovereignty in the battery market. Recognized for its commitment, Dracula Technologies secured €5 million in funding from the French State as part of the “First Factory” project call aligned with France’s reindustrialization strategy (France 2030). The innovative LAYER® technology is poised to drive positive change by addressing IoT challenges related to battery life, power consumption, and e-waste.
